From the story in the Shinsen Shojiroku that Amenooshihito no Mikoto, the ancestor of the Muraji clan, was given the surname Muraji because he supervised cleaning during the reign of Emperor Yuryaku, we can see that the Muraji clan was a Tomo no Miyatsuko who served in cleaning and paving the palace before the Ritsuryo state. The Sweeping Officers and Tono Sweeping Officers of the Ritsuryo system's Sweeping Officers, Inner Sweeping Officers, and Harumiya Bozudenshi were Tonobe. Sweeping Officers and Sweeping Officers were originally read as Kamumori, but the Kogo Shūi tells us that Amenooshihito no Mikoto was called Kanimori (Crab Guardian) because he accompanied the seaside birthing house at the time of the birth of Emperor Jimmu's father and swept away crabs with a broom, which is merely a play on words based on the corrupted form of Kamumori.
