Pope of the Roman Empire (reigned 1305-1314). Under pressure from King Philip IV of France, the Papacy was established in Avignon in the south of France in 1309, and the Babylonian Captivity of the Pope (Avignon Captivity) began. The Papacy was consistently under the control of the French monarchy, with concessions in the Anagni affair and the release of the Knights Templar. The Decrees of Clement are part of this collection.
