…He translated and published humorous novels in Shinseinen, followed by the detective novel Kinrou (Golden Wolf) (1936). He took an interest in the "human" aspects of the story, which had not been looked at by previous mystery writers, and pioneered a style of writing that addressed psychological conflicts. He then expanded his field to include the modern story Calico-san and Agitojuro Torimonochō (Detective Story of Agito) under the name Tanigawa Haya. After the war, he wrote newspaper novels such as Kokoni Izumi Ari (There is a Spring Here) and Jujigai (Cross Street). In 1951, he won the Naoki Prize for Suzuki Suisuke, and in 1953, his novel Mother and Child was selected for the International Short Story Competition. …
