Ganymede - Ganymede (English spelling)

Ganymede - Ganymede (English spelling)

Jupiter's third moon. It is one of the four so-called Galilean moons discovered by Galilei in 1610. It orbits Jupiter about 1,070,000 km from its center in 7.1545 days. It is the largest moon in the solar system, with a diameter of 5,280 km, which is larger than Mercury, but its mass is about 0.026 times that of Earth, less than half that of Mercury. Its surface is thought to be covered in a thick layer of ice, and observations by the Voyager spacecraft have revealed various landforms, including craters.
