A town in Kusu County in western Oita Prefecture. The area is centered around the Kusu Basin in the Kusu River basin upstream of the Chikugo River, with the rest of the area mountainous. Mori, a castle town of the early modern Kurushima clan, developed, and after the opening of the Kyudai Main Line, Hoashi in front of Bungomori Station and Tsukawaki along National Route 210 developed. The town produces timber and rice, and is famous as a beef cattle producing area. It is home to Mt. Oiwa Ogi (a natural monument) and Mt.
