Einherjar (English spelling)

In Norse mythology, the name of the group of warriors who live in Odin's hall, Valhalla. Whenever a battle takes place on earth, Odin sends his beautiful daughters, the Valkyries, to the battlefield to select the brave warriors who have died in battle and bring them to Valhalla. There, they are treated graciously as Odin's personal guests until the end of the world, and live a life of fighting and feasting. It is the Valkyries who treat the wounds sustained in battle and serve at feasts. At the time of Ragnarok, the Einherjar participate in the final battle between the gods and the army of demons as Odin's soldiers.
