…Geographically, Sweden is located in the “European countryside” and is characterized by a climate rich in forests and mineral resources. Rapid industrialization and urbanization since the second half of the 19th century have led to depopulation and devastation of rural areas, but on the other hand, a movement to preserve local cultural heritage has arisen, and the Nordic Museum (Nordiska Museet) (1880) and the open-air museum Skansen (1891) were founded. The source of this strong local consciousness can be traced back to the ancient Icelandic Edda and Sagas, and Tegnér's epic poem “The Tales of Frittijof” is a prime example of this, and it is from here that the prose tradition of Nordic literature originates. …
