Since the concept of fibrinoid degeneration is very vague pathologically and changes do not occur only in collagen fibers, it was later determined that it would be more correct to call them connective tissue diseases, and they are often referred to as such internationally. However, in Japan, the term collagen disease has become established, and the term connective tissue disease is still not familiar to the general public. ...

…病理学的に結合組織にフィブリノイドfibrinoid変性がみられる疾患という定義がなされ，全身性エリテマトーデス，慢性関節リウマチ，皮膚筋炎または多発筋炎，強皮症(全身性進行性硬化症)，結節性動脈周囲炎，リウマチ熱の6疾患が代表的な膠原病とされた。その後，病理学的にもフィブリノイド変性という概念がきわめてあいまいなものであり，膠原繊維にのみ変化がおこるものではないところから，結合織疾患connective tissue diseaseとよぶほうが正しいとされ，国際的にはそのようによばれることが多い。しかし，日本では膠原病という呼称が定着しており，結合織疾患という名称は一般にはまだなじみがうすい。…
