...The Chimaki Sasa is distributed from Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands to the southern part of the Korean Peninsula, and its leaves are larger than those of the Kuma Sasa, reaching over 30 cm in length and 8 cm in width, and are well known as the bamboo used to wrap chimaki dumplings for the Boys' Festival in May. The Kumai Sasa S. senanensis Rehd. and the Ooba Sasa S. megalophylla Makino et Uchida are similar to the Chimaki Sasa in that they have hairs on the underside of their leaves, and both are found from the Kuril Islands and Sakhalin to Kyushu.
