Japanese: 牛飼童 - うしかいわらわ

〘 noun 〙 A person who drives an ox cart . They have long hair, wear a suikan (traditional Japanese traditional dress) , hold a whip and have the appearance of a young boy. Most are young boys, but some are in their 30s or 40s. Ushi kodei (oxen boy). Ushikai. ※Makura (end of the 10th century) 203 "The cart, which I've been riding for a while, is very shiny, but the ox straw is very hard to get through."
