A poisonous mushroom of the Basidiomycete family of the Order Matsutake and Family Ipponshimeji. The cap is 3-8 cm long, with a gray-brown, flesh-colored, and glossy surface. The gills grow on the stem, which are initially white and later turn pale pink. The stem is hollow, slender, and brittle. The spores are pentagonal or hexagonal, flesh-colored. In autumn, they grow in colonies on the ground in forests. They are widely distributed in Japan, Europe, North America, and other places. It is a poisonous mushroom of the same genus as Ipponshimeji, and more cases of poisoning have been reported with Ipponshimeji.

担子菌類、マツタケ目イッポンシメジ科の毒キノコ。傘は3～8センチメートル、表面は灰褐色で肉色を帯び、光沢がある。ひだは茎に上生し、初めは白、のちに淡紅色となる。茎は中空で細長く、もろい。胞子は五角形か六角形で、肉色。秋、林内地上に群生する。分布は日本のほか、ヨーロッパ、北アメリカなどと広い。イッポンシメジと同属の毒キノコであり、中毒例もクサウラベニタケのほうが多い。
