A former town in Maniwa County in northern Okayama Prefecture. The main settlement, Katsuyama, located at the confluence of the Asahi River and Shinjo River, was originally a station on the Izumo Kaido road called Takada, and along the Kishin Line, the town distributes agricultural products and lumber. One of the town's specialties is Takada inkstones. Kanba Falls (a scenic spot) in the north is the most famous waterfall in the Chugoku region. In March 2005, the town merged with Kitafusa Town in Kamifusa County, and Ochiai Town, Yubara Town, Kuze Town, Mikawa Village, Kawakami Village, Yatsuka Village, and Nakawa Village in Maniwa County to become a city. 138.79 km2 . Population: 9,270 (2003).

Katsuyama [town]

A former town in Miyako-gun, northeastern Fukuoka Prefecture. The center is a town and village along National Route 201. In addition to rice cultivation, the town also produces timber, shiitake mushrooms, and bamboo shoots. The number of people commuting to Kitakyushu City is increasing. In March 2006, the town merged with Saigawa-cho and Toyotsu-cho in Kyoto-gun to become Miyako-cho in Kyoto-gun. Area 33.94 km2 . Population 7,286 (2003).

岡山県北部,真庭郡の旧町。旭川と新庄川の合流点にある主集落勝山はもと高田という出雲街道の駅で,姫新(きしん)線に沿い,農産物,木材を集散。特産に高田硯(すずり)がある。北部の神庭(かんば)の滝(名勝)は中国地方第1の名滝。2005年3月上房郡北房町,真庭郡落合町,湯原町,久世町,美甘村,川上村,八束村,中和村と合併し市制,真庭市となる。138.79km2。9270人(2003)。

福岡県北東部,京都(みやこ)郡の旧町。中心は国道201号線沿いの街村。米作を行うほか,木材,シイタケ,タケノコも産する。北九州市への通勤者が増加している。2006年3月,京都郡犀川町,豊津町と合併し町制,京都郡みやこ町となる。33.94km2。7286人(2003)。
