Da yun jing (Great Cloud Sutra)

Japanese: 大雲経 - だいうんきょう（英語表記）Dà yún jīng

This is the abbreviated name of the six volumes of the Dafanggeng Musang Dayun Sutra, translated into Chinese by Don Mu Xin of Northern Liang, China. This Buddhist scripture, which preaches the king's protection of Buddhism, contains a passage about the Pure Light Heavenly Maiden succeeding to the throne. Xue Huaiyi, the lover of Empress Wu Zetian of the Tang Dynasty, together with nine other people, including the monk Faming of Luoyang, created a prophecy to accompany this sutra, advertising that "the Empress Dowager is the reincarnation of Maitreya Buddha and should ascend to the throne in place of the Tang Dynasty." In July 689 (Yongchang 1), this sutra was distributed throughout the country, marking the beginning of the so-called Wu Zhou Revolution.

中国，北涼の曇無讖（どんむしん）によって漢訳された《大方等無想大雲経》6巻の略称。国王の仏教保護を説くこの仏典には，浄光天女が王位をつぐ，という一節があった。唐の則天武后の愛人，薛懐義（せつかいぎ）は，洛陽の僧法明ら9人と共同で，この経に付会した讖文をつくり，〈太后は弥勒仏の下生なり，まさに唐に代わって帝位に即くべし〉と宣伝し，689年(永昌1)7月にはこの経を全国にわかち，いわゆる武周革命の端緒を開いた。
