A village in Minamitsuru County in the southeastern part of Yamanashi Prefecture. Population 2,315 (1995). Located at the northern foot of Mt. Fuji, on the southern shore of Lake Kawaguchi. With an area of 4.2 km2, it is the smallest in the prefecture. The settlement is located in the northern part of the village, around Lake Kawaguchi. The entire area is covered by eruption material from Mt. Fuji, the soil is poor and there is little arable land. Agriculture has shifted from rice cultivation to the cultivation of highland vegetables such as corn, cabbage and tomatoes. In addition, the production of bamboo crafts, such as sieves, is thriving. Taking advantage of the scenic location, the number of sports facilities for tennis, soccer, etc., and music facilities is increasing as a tourist destination. 山梨県南東部,南都留郡の村。人口2315(1995)。富士山北麓,河口湖の南岸に位置する。面積4.2km2は県下最小。集落は村の北部,河口湖の周りにある。全域が富士山の噴出物に覆われ,土壌はやせて耕地は少ない。農業は米作からトウモロコシ,キャベツ,トマトなど高原蔬菜栽培へと転換している。また,ざるをはじめ,竹を使った工芸品の生産が盛ん。風光明美な土地を生かした観光地としてテニス,サッカーなどの体育施設,音楽施設などが増加している。
