Inusenburi - Inusenburi

Japanese: イヌセンブリ - いぬせんぶり
Inusenburi - Inusenburi

An annual or biennial plant of the Gentianaceae family (APG classification: Gentianaceae). The stems are 10-35 cm tall and the leaves are oblanceolate. From September to November, the flowers bloom upwards, white with purple streaks at the stem apex and leaf axils. The corolla is deep and has five lobes. It is named after the fact that it resembles Senburi but has no bitterness and is not medicinal. It grows in coastal and mountainous wetlands in Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu, and is distributed in Korea and China.
