A dyeing method that uses a stencil to dye a pattern. It is also called katatsukezome, and especially when it is a craft with a pictorial pattern, it is called kataezome. It is applied to fabrics, washi paper, and leather. The general method is to apply a stencil to the fabric, place a dye-resistant paste or colored paste, and then dye it in one color or multiple colors by applying color or rubbing.
