The next king, Muwatalli (reigned c. 1306-c. 1282 BC), left the defense of Qashqa in the north to his brother Hattusili, and temporarily moved the capital to Dattasha (southeastern Anatolia, exact location unknown). Around 1286 BC, Muwatalli fought a battle at Kadesh on the Orontes River against Ramses II of Egypt, who was actively planning to advance into Syria, and the Hittites were victorious, securing Hittite interests in Syria. …
