Japanese: 鑑札 - かんさつ

A tag issued to publicly certify that permission had been granted by an administrative agency. Under the Meiji Constitution, cattle and horse dealers, secondhand goods dealers, pawnbrokers, acupuncturists, drug dealers, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and others could not operate without applying for and receiving a license from an administrative agency. For example, secondhand goods dealers had to carry a license in order to peddle or set up a street stall. Today, licenses have been substituted for licenses (Secondhand Goods Business Law 10, 12, Pawnbroker Business Law 8, etc.).

行政庁の許可があった事実を公に証明するために交付した札。明治憲法のもとでは，牛馬商，古物商，質屋，鍼灸術師，薬種商，製薬者などは，行政庁に願い出て鑑札を受けなければ営業できなかった。たとえば，古物商が行商をし，または露店を出すには鑑札を携帯していなければならなかった。今日では鑑札に代えて許可証，免許証によることに改められた (古物営業法 10，12，質屋営業法8など) 。
