Koshoku City - Food
This old city occupies the Chikuma River basin in the southern part of the Nagano Basin in the northern part of Nagano Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1959. Yashiro, the center of the city, is an old post town on the Hokkoku Kaido road, and is the junction of the third-sector Shinano Railway and the Nagano Electric Railway, as well as the junction of the Joshinetsu Expressway (opened in 1996) and the Nagano Expressway (opened in 1993). The Inariyama area on the opposite bank of the Chikuma River is an old center along the Zenkoji Nishi Kaido road, and the Shinonoi Line passes through it. With good access to the expressway, industries such as beverages, clothing, metal products, and electrical equipment have developed. In the lowlands, apple and persimmon cultivation is thriving, and the forest is known as a famous spot for apricots. There is Obasuteyama and Mori Shogunzuka Kofun. In September 2003, it merged with Tokura Town, Hanishina District, and Kamiyamada Town, Sarashina District, to form Chikuma City. 78.99km2 . 39,688 people (2003).

長野県北部,長野盆地南部の千曲(ちくま)川流域を占める旧市。1959年市制。中心の屋代(やしろ)は北国街道の旧宿場町で,第三セクターしなの鉄道と長野電鉄の分岐点で,上信越自動車道(1996年開通)と長野自動車道(1993年開通)の分岐点でもある。千曲川の対岸の稲荷山地区は善光寺西街道沿いの古い中心で篠ノ井線が通じる。高速自動車道の便がよいため,飲料,衣料品,金属製品,電気機器などの工業が発展している,低地ではリンゴ,花卉(かき)の栽培が盛んで,また森はアンズの名所として知られる。姨捨(おばすて)山や森将軍塚古墳がある。2003年9月埴科郡戸倉町,更級郡上山田町と合併し,千曲市となる。78.99km2。3万9688人(2003)。
