Bleached raw cotton fabric of small widths. Also called simply "sarashi". Chita zarashi is famous, made by bleaching Chita cotton produced in the Kamezaki region of Chita Peninsula, Aichi Prefecture, using a unique bleaching method. Other types such as Omi zarashi and Yasu zarashi are also produced in small quantities. Usually, it is a plain weave fabric woven roughly with slightly thick cotton threads, with a finished width of 32 cm and a length of 9.2 to 9.5 m per roll. The finished product is soft and highly absorbent, and is widely used for hand towels, Japanese underwear, baby clothes, and belly warmers. For linen bleaching, Nara zarashi and Yasu zarashi, which are made from ramie bark dried in the shade, have ancient origins, and are bleached in the sun. Nara zarashi is still produced in small quantities today. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
