An old town in Kashima District, northern Ishikawa Prefecture. It occupies the northern part of the Ochigata lowlands, and the Nanao Line runs through it. It has long been known for Noto Jofu, and textiles remain its main industry. Rice cultivation is also thriving. 石川県北部,鹿島(かしま)郡の旧町。邑知(おうち)潟低地帯の北側を占め,七尾線が通じる。古くから能登上布で知られ,現在も繊維工業が基幹産業。米作も盛ん。2005年3月鹿島郡鹿島町,鹿西町と合併し町制,中能登町となる。27.00km2。5939人(2003)。
