The founder of the Heike revival. A monk from Mount Shosha in Harima (Hyogo Prefecture), he is said to have been a disciple of Joichi, the founder of the Ichikata school. His speech in front of Takano Moronao is recorded in the "Taiheiki." A transcription of the "Tale of the Heike" that he had written down in his later years remains, and is known as the "Kakuichibon." There is also a theory that he was a cousin of Ashikaga Takauji, and was given land in Akashi, so he is also known as Akashi Kakuichi. He died on June 29, 4th year of Oan (Kentoku 2). His original name was Joryo. Source: Kodansha Digital Japanese Name Dictionary +Plus Information | Legend |
