Liar - Liar

...In modern society, telling lies or exaggerations that cannot actually occur is viewed negatively as frivolous behavior, and in principle, it is considered good to "live honestly." However, when we examine folk customs regarding lies, we find that lies and tall tales were not only viewed with a different, more tolerant eye than in modern times, but that lies even played a positive role. In Japan, it is common to see folk customs in which lies told over the year are ceremonially paid off or driven away on specific days such as Setsubun, Little New Year, October 20th, and December 8th.
