Mine dust

A general term for dust generated in coal mines and other underground activities such as mining, tunnel excavation, transportation, and other activities. The main types of dust are coal dust and rock dust. Coal dust is generated mainly during coal mining, tunnel excavation, loading of coal, and transfer of coal during transportation, and becomes suspended in the air currents inside the mine or accumulates in the tunnels, which are related to explosions and their propagation. Rock dust is generated during activities such as mining ore and tunnel excavation, and can become suspended in the air and cause pneumoconiosis (silicosis).

鉱山や炭鉱の坑内において，採掘，坑道の掘進，運搬その他の作業に伴って発生する粉塵の総称。これらのうちおもなものは，炭塵および岩粉である。炭塵は主として石炭の採掘，沿層坑道の掘進，石炭の積込み，運搬途中における石炭の積替えなどで発生し，坑内気流中に浮遊し，あるいは坑道に堆積して爆発およびその伝播に関係する。岩粉は鉱石の採掘，岩石坑道の掘進などの作業に伴って発生し，空気中に浮遊して塵肺 (ケイ肺症) の原因となるおそれがある。
