Angle gauge

Japanese:
Angle gauge

This is a standard gauge for measuring angles. Like a gauge block, several gauges are placed in close contact to produce the required angle. There are two types of angle gauge: Johansson type and NPL type. The Johansson type consists of 49 or 85 plate-shaped pieces (approximately 50 x 20 x 1.5 mm), and by combining two of them, angles from 10 degrees to 350 degrees can be produced in 1 to 5 second increments. This method is inconvenient because the measuring surface is small and many gauges are required. The NPL type consists of 12 to 15 wedge-shaped blocks with flat lapped ends. By appropriately combining these, any angle from 0 degrees to nearly 90 degrees can be produced in 1 or 3 second increments with an accuracy of 2 to 3 seconds. Compared to the Johansson type, the measuring surface is larger and a wide range of angles can be produced with a small number of blocks, making it widely used for measurement, inspection, setting of workpieces, etc.
