In Islam, the miracle of the "Night Journey" is when the Prophet Muhammad (Mohammed) flew from Mecca to Jerusalem on the winged winged horse Buraq. This is one of the few miracles of Muhammad that appear in the Quran, and is based on "Glory be to Him who brought His servant on a journey by night from the Sacred Mosque to the remotest mosque" (Chapter 17, Verse 1). It has been consistently interpreted since ancient times that the "Sacred Mosque" refers to the Kaaba in Mecca, and the "servant" refers to Muhammad. In early interpretations, the "remote mosque" meant heaven, but during the Umayyad dynasty it was identified with the temple in Jerusalem. However, the motif of the journey to heaven was also preserved, so it was believed that Muhammad first traveled to Jerusalem on the winged horse (Isra), and then climbed a ladder of light to fly through the heavens (Mulage). Muhammad flying through the sky on the female-faced winged horse Burak is often the subject of miniature paintings.

イスラム教において、預言者ムハンマド（マホメット）が翼をもつ天馬ブーラークに乗り、メッカからエルサレムに飛んだという「夜の旅」の奇跡。これは、コーランに表れるムハンマドの数少ない奇跡の一つで、「聖なるモスクから、遠隔のモスクまで、その僕(しもべ)を、夜の旅に連れ出したもうたお方に栄光あれ」（17章1節）に基づいている。「聖なるモスク」がメッカのカーバ神殿を、「僕」がムハンマドを意味することは古来から解釈が一定している。「遠隔のモスク」は、初期の解釈では天国を意味していたが、ウマイヤ朝になってエルサレムの神殿に比定された。しかし天国への旅のモチーフも保存されたので、ムハンマドはまず天馬に乗ってエルサレムに旅し（イスラー）、それから光の梯子(はしご)に登って天上飛行（ミュラージュ）したと考えられるようになった。なお、女面の天馬ブーラークに乗って空を飛ぶムハンマドは、しばしばミニアチュール（細密画）の題材となっている。
