...Kyrgyz factory workers were also trained, and by 1939 their share of the total workforce in Kyrgyzstan reached 17.9%. Kyrgyzstan became the Kara-Kyrgyz Autonomous Oblast of the Russian Republic in 1924 as a result of the demarcation of ethnic borders in Central Asia, but in 1925 it was renamed the Kyrgyz Autonomous Oblast, and in February 1926 it became an autonomous republic, and in December 1936 it was elevated to a republic, becoming a constituent republic of the Soviet Union. In the late 1930s, the Great Purge also hit Kyrgyzstan, and many party members, including First Secretary M. Ammosov and Second Secretary M. Belotskii, were killed.
