Mount Kayagatake

A mountain in northwest Yamanashi Prefecture. It is on the border between Kai City and Hokuto City. It is 1,704 meters above sea level. To the southwest, there is a vast gentle slope made of volcanic debris, which is increasingly being used for farming and golf courses. It is known for the wonderful view of the Yatsugatake Mountains, the Northern Alps, and the Southern Alps from the summit. It is also the final resting place of Fukada Kyuya, author of "Japan's 100 Famous Mountains" (he died while climbing). The most common route to the mountain is by bus from Nirasaki Station on the JR Chuo Main Line, passing through Fukada Memorial Park. You can also climb from the Kai City area via Kannon Pass.

山梨県北西部にある山。甲斐市(かいし)と、北杜市(ほくとし)の境にある。標高1704メートル。南西方に火山砕屑物(さいせつぶつ)からなる広大な緩斜面をもち、農耕地あるいはゴルフ場などの利用が進んでいる。頂上からの八ヶ岳(やつがたけ)、北アルプス、南アルプスの展望がすばらしいことで知られる。また、『日本百名山』の著者深田久弥(ふかたきゅうや)終焉(しゅうえん)の地（登山中に死去）でもある。登山路はJR中央本線韮崎(にらさき)駅からバスを利用、深田記念公園経由が一般的。ほかに甲斐市方面から観音峠経由でも登れる。
