A city in eastern Afghanistan. Currently called Ghazni. Located 150 km southwest of Kabul, it is a small city with a population of 33,000 (1984). The name Gazaka appears in the 2nd century AD geography of Ptolemy. It is known as the capital of the Ghaznavid dynasty (977-1186), and contains the tombs of Sabuktigine and Mahmud of the same dynasty. Two victory monuments for Mahmud stand on the eastern outskirts. アフガニスタン東部の都市。現在はガズニーGhaznīと呼ばれる。カーブルの南西150kmにあり,人口3万3000(1984)の小都市である。2世紀のプトレマイオスの地理書に,すでにガザカGazakaの名がみえる。ガズナ朝(977‐1186)の都として知られ,同朝のサブクティギーンとマフムードの墓廟がある。またマフムードの戦勝記念塔が2基,東郊外に立っている。市街地の東部の丘の上に城があり,兵営として使われている。
