Igara - Igara

...They are an agricultural people who cultivate both forest and savanna plants such as yams, sorghum, corn, and cassava, but they are also skilled in ironsmithing and continue to have a wide trading area as merchants. Like the Yoruba, Bali, Igala, and other ethnic groups, the Nupe society formed a kingdom with a sacred king in the 16th century, and in the 17th and 18th centuries, they achieved economic development as part of trade across the Sahara Desert, especially as a key point connecting the wide-area trade route between the forest areas in the south and the Bornu and Hausa in the north. They also played a part in the slave trade through wars with small neighboring countries.
