...Because Iomante is an important event that is at the heart of Ainu culture, it is still held occasionally in recent years and is even recorded on film. By the way, when comparing examples of bear festivals around the world, the opunire type shows a pan-northern hemisphere spread, while the omante type, in which a bred bear is sent off, can only be found in Hokkaido, Sakhalin (Karafuto), and the Amur River basin (Ainu, Nivhi, Uilta, Orochi, Urichi).
