Zenbe (Zenfu) - Kashiwade

Japanese: 膳部(膳夫) - かしわで

In ancient times, they were in charge of cooking meals for the emperor, empress, crown prince, and government officials. In the Ritsuryo system, 260 people were in charge of the Daizenshiki, Naizenshi, and Harumiyabozu Zenkan. In the 6th and 7th centuries, before the establishment of the Ritsuryo state, when local clans submitted to the emperor, they had their children attend the emperor as Kashiwade, attendants in charge of cooking and preparing meals, along with Toneri and Uneme. This is known from a story in the Nihon Shoki that the ancestor of the Kibi clan arranged for his brothers and descendants to serve as Kashiwade during Emperor Ojin's visit to Kibi, and from a story in Takahashi Ujifumi that says that during Emperor Seine's reign, the ancestor of the Kibi clan arranged for Shirakamibe Toneri and Shirakamibe Tsunetake to serve in various provinces, and that during Emperor Keikō's tour of the eastern provinces, 12 families of the eastern provinces recommended their children as Kashiwade.

古代に天皇･皇后･皇太子と官人の食事の調理をつかさどった人。令制の大膳職･内膳司･春宮坊主膳監には260人の伴部の膳部が属した。律令国家成立以前の6～7世紀には，地方豪族が大王に服属する際に，一族子弟を舎人（とねり）･采女（うねめ）などとともに，調理･饗膳をつかさどる伴（とも）である膳夫（かしわで）として大王に近侍させた。これは，応神天皇の吉備行幸の際に吉備氏の祖が兄弟子孫を膳夫となして饗したとか，清寧天皇代に諸国に白髪部舎人･白髪部靱負とともに白髪部膳夫を置いたとかの《日本書紀》の説話，景行天皇の東国巡幸の際に東方諸国造12氏が子弟を膳夫に進めたとの《高橋氏文》の説話から知られる。
