Ogurusu - Ogurusu

Japanese: 小栗栖 - おぐるす
Ogurusu - Ogurusu

A district in the eastern part of Fushimi Ward, Kyoto City. It is also called "Ogurisu." It is located at the southeastern foot of the Higashiyama mountain range on the western edge of the Yamashina Basin, and the highway leading from Fushimi to Omi passes through it. In June 1582 (Tensho 10), Akechi Mitsuhide, who was defeated by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in the Battle of Yamazaki, met his end here, stabbed by a local bamboo spear on his way to Sakamoto Castle in Omi. The place where he died was called Akechi Yabu, but is now a residential area.
