An octopus of the family Malvaceae in the class Cephalopoda. The term "octopus shell" actually refers to the shell, and the soft body is called a "funedako." Its English name is paper nautilus, but it is completely different from a nautilus (a type of nautilus). It is smaller than a nautilus. Its body length is about 12 cm, and its mantle is round but slightly pointed. Females secrete calcium carbonate from their specialized, membranous first arm to create a shell for breeding. They can enter and exit the shell freely, and lay their eggs inside. There is no partition inside the shell like in nautiluses. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
