Archaeocyathus (English spelling)

Archaeocyathus (English spelling)
They are also called Archaeocyathida or Archaeocyatida. They are unique marine epiphytes known only from the Early to Early Middle Cambrian Period of the Paleozoic Era. They have been classified into various different classes, but recently they have been classified as an independent animal phylum, Archaeocyatha, which occupies a position close to the phylum Porifera, and are considered to be the only extinct phylum in the animal kingdom. Since their soft bodies do not preserve as fossils, there are many unsolved problems. Their skeletons are made of calcium carbonate.
