...Aclacinomycin A is a form of doxorubicin that has reduced cardiac toxicity. Maytansine, an anticancer drug extracted from a tropical plant, has the disadvantage that it can only be obtained in small amounts, but a related substance was isolated from actinomycetes (ansamitocin, Takeda Pharmaceutical Co., 1979). It has the advantage of being able to be obtained in large quantities, making it a good example of the superiority of microbial utilization.
