A tributary of the Ishikari River that flows through the southern part of the Kamikawa Basin in central Hokkaido. It is 68 km long. It originates on the northern slope of Mt. Tokachi in the Daisetsu Mountains, merges with the Chubetu River, and flows into the Ishikari River. The lowlands along the coast are paddy fields, and the southern part of the Kamikawa Basin is a grain-producing region. The plateau is used for fields and pasture. Shirogane Onsen is located in the upper reaches, and the area is part of Daisetsuzan National Park. 北海道中央部,上川盆地の南部を流れる石狩川の支流。全長 68km。大雪山系の十勝岳の北側斜面に源を発し,忠別川と合流して石狩川に注ぐ。沿岸流域の低地には水田が開け,上川盆地南部の穀倉地帯。台地上は畑や牧野に利用されている。上流域に白金温泉があり,大雪山国立公園に属する。
