…In 1333 (Genko 3), the Imperial Court's Uchino-ryo Bureau of Customs established a toll gate at Awataguchi and three other gates, and throughout the Muromachi period, tolls were collected from people and horses passing through the area, but this was abolished by Toyotomi Hideyoshi. In addition, swordsmiths have existed since the Kamakura period, and their works are collectively called Awataguchimono. Awata ware from the early modern period and onwards, and Awataguchi execution grounds are also famous. …
