Battle of Okehazama

Japanese: 桶狭間の戦 - おけはざまのたたかい

A battle between Imagawa Yoshimoto and Oda Nobunaga in Owari (Midori-ku, Nagoya City, Toyoake City, etc., Aichi Prefecture) in 1560. Yoshimoto led a large army from the three provinces of Suruga, Totomi, and Mikawa, marching westward to Kyoto, capturing Nobunaga's vanguard bases one after another, and when he advanced to Okehazama (more precisely, Dengaku Hazama, 1.5km to the north), Nobunaga took advantage of the wind and rain to launch a surprise attack, defeating Yoshimoto and achieving a great victory. This was the turning point for Nobunaga to expand his power and move towards unifying the country.

1560年今川義元と織田信長との尾張(おわり)桶狭間（愛知県名古屋市緑区・豊明市など）における合戦。義元は駿河・遠江・三河３国の大軍を率いて上洛のため西進し，信長方の前衛拠点を次々と攻略し，桶狭間（詳しくは北方1.5kmの田楽(でんがく)狭間）に進出したところを，信長が風雨をついて奇襲し義元を討ち大勝。これを契機に信長は勢力を拡大，天下統一に向かう。
