Mele hula (English spelling)

The music is a slow, bouncing rhythm with a chant-like song accompanied by percussion instruments (drums or ipu), and this song is called mele hula. After 1820, Christian missionaries came to the islands from the United States and misinterpreted hula as immoral and banned it. It was later revived at the end of the 19th century, ushering in the era of modern hula, but there are many cases where vulgar hip-shaking dances poisoned by commercialism were called hula or hula dance, and misunderstandings about hula have not been eliminated even today. ...
