This refers to the system and practice of lending and borrowing kettles for boiling salt or cooking rice, as well as the kettles that were borrowed and borrowed. The former was adopted in the early modern Kaga domain as part of the salt monopoly system, under which, for the production of Noto salt, salt kettles were cast by a foundryman in Nakai (present-day Anamizu Town, Ishikawa Prefecture) at domain expense and then loaned to saltmen. These salt kettles were called oshiire kettles, and the domain owned and loaned them to the saltmen for the first six years, after which the foundryman owned and loaned them to the saltmen for seven years, after which they were sold to the saltmen at the end of the 13-year term. This principle continued until the end of the domain's rule, but there was also a system in which foundries cast salt kettles at their own expense and loaned them directly to saltmen on the condition that they would be repaired in case of damage, which continued until the Meiji period.
