Dog-dog - Kukuo

...It is often found in secluded places such as roadsides and riverbeds in cultivated fields, and is widely distributed from Japan to the temperate zone of East Asia. The young shoots are eaten as vegetables, and the whole plant, when dried, is called "kukuo" in traditional Chinese medicine and is used as a diuretic and tonic. The very similar C. hederacea Wall. is small overall as its name suggests, and its flowers are also small, less than 4 cm in diameter.
