[Legend]
The genus name of Wormwood comes from Queen Artemisia of Caria in Asia Minor. After the death of her husband, King Mausolus, she built the Mausoleum, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and is said to have mixed her husband's ashes with a drink made from Wormwood.

According to Northern European folklore, mugwort was believed to be a mysterious plant with strong magnetic powers and whose leaves always face north. It was used in crystal divination and sorcery, and was counted among the medicinal herbs effective against rheumatism, infertility, chills, etc. It is said that this plant is particularly effective against gynecological diseases because it was a sacred plant to the goddess Artemis, and the genus name Artemisia also comes from this. Pliny the Elder said that it had the power to ward off poisonous insects and poisonous medicines, and there is also a popular belief that if you carry it with you on a journey, you will not get tired.

　北ヨーロッパの伝承によれば，ヨモギは強い磁力をもち，つねに葉を北へ向けている不思議な草と信じられ，水晶占いや呪術（じゆじゆつ）に用いられたほか，リウマチ，不妊，悪寒などに効果のある薬草の一つに数えられた。この草がとくに婦人病に効くのは，女神アルテミスの聖草であったからだといわれ，属名アルテミシアもこれに由来する。大プリニウスは毒虫や毒薬を防ぐ力があると述べ，これを持って旅をすれば疲れないという俗信もある。…
