...This is a collaboration between Ike Taiga and Yosa Buson, who are said to have perfected Japanese literati painting. It is based on the meaning of the poem "Ten Conveniences and Twelve Good Poems," which praises the goodness and convenience of life at Yiyuan, a villa belonging to the early Qing dynasty literati Li Yu. Taiga has painted the ten conveniences, and Buson has painted ten of the twelve good things. In the ten conveniences, a visitor asks about the inconveniences of secluded life at Yiyuan, and Li Yu responds that there are many more convenient aspects to life in the streets. Taiga has painted the human relationship to nature and the subtleties of their interaction in a unique, large-scale, and relaxed manner. ...
