...A perennial plant of the Nyctaginaceae family native to tropical America, also known as "Yugesho" (evening makeup) because it blooms in the summer evening (illustration). It blooms in the evening and has the strongest fragrance, so in England it is called "four-o'clock" (4 p.m.). It was introduced to Japan a long time ago, and is recorded in Kaibara Ekiken's "Kafu" (Flower Book) in 1694 (Genroku 7) and other ancient books. ...
