Around 1185 - 1245
Franciscan theologian from England. He studied at the University of Paris and initially became a professor in the Faculty of Humanities, but later became a professor in the Faculty of Theology. He broke with tradition by using Peter Lombard's De Propositions instead of the Bible as a text for his lectures, and became a pioneer of speculative scholastic theology. His main work, Summa Theologica, is a representative work of Franciscan theology before the full introduction of Aristotelian philosophy. [Inagaki Yoshinori]

イギリス出身のフランシスコ会神学者。パリ大学で学び，はじめ人文学部の教授となったが，後に神学部の教授となり，慣例を破って講義のテキストとして聖書の代りにペトルス･ロンバルドゥスの《命題論集》を用い，思弁的なスコラ神学の先駆者となった。主著《神学大全》はアリストテレス哲学の全面的な導入以前のフランシスコ学派神学の代表的著作である。【稲垣良典】
