A rock tower-like formation formed by the solidified lava being pushed up onto the crater of a volcano and solidifying into a columnar shape. It is called a lava spire or volcanic tower, and was once called Veronite. This type of volcanic formation is common in monogenetic volcanoes that form in one active period (one cycle). After the 1902 eruption of Mount Pelee on Martinique in the West Indies, lava rose at a rate of about 10 meters per day, creating a rock spire about 276 meters high and 100 to 170 meters in diameter, but it was destroyed by a subsequent eruption, causing a pyroclastic flow. In Japan, Mount Showa-Shinzan was formed in 1945, and a rock spire of about 100 meters protruded from the original ground of about 1 km in diameter, which had risen about 300 meters.
