This area is located on the Abukuma River in Nihonmatsu City, in the central north of Fukushima Prefecture. It is said that it was originally the name of the flat land on the west side of the river. There is a legend of Onibaba, known from the Noh song "Kurozuka" (called "Adachigahara" in the Kanze school), and a cave where the Onibaba is said to have stayed is located in the grounds of Kanzeji Temple. The nearby Kurozuka is said to be the grave of the Onibaba, and nearby is a monument by Taira no Kanemori that reads, "Is it true that I have heard that she has stayed in Kurozuka at Adachihara in Michinoku?" ("Shuishu"). [Yasuda Hatsuo] [Reference] |Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
