The ECJ is a court located in Luxembourg that aims to resolve disputes within the European Union (EU). It was established in 1958 as a common body of the three European Community (EC) communities, together with the European Parliament. The ECJ has promoted European integration through its decisions, and it was also the ECJ's decisions that established the priority of EC law over national law and the direct applicability of EC law (see EC/EU law in the European Union entry).
