Ariadne - Ariadne (English spelling)

In Greek mythology, Ariadne is the daughter of Minos, the king of Crete, and Pasiphae. When the Athenian hero Theseus visited the island, Ariadne fell in love with him and gave him a ball of thread to guide him through the labyrinth, helping him defeat the monster Minotaur. Theseus escaped the labyrinth by following the thread and fled to the island of Naxos with Ariadne, but he left Ariadne behind as she slept on the beach. However, the god Dionysus, who came to the island later, fell in love with her and took her back to Olympus as his wife. Dionysus gave her a gold crown, which later became the constellation Corona Borealis. Ariadne had children with Dionysus, including Thoas, Staphylos, Oenopion, and Peparetos, but one theory is that she was shot dead by Artemis on Dionysus' orders.
